Wintertime In Lovely Lyon, France ~ Part Two
A wintertime trip has taken us across the Atlantic to Lyon, France. This is the second post of a four part series, a story about the colour and texture of Lyon’s cityscape from a personal frame of reference. Instead of capturing the all the typical highlights, this is a curated view of Lyon, a photographic essay of the city experience in the wintertime. Highlights vary from cityscapes to little details from our perspective framed in the viewfinder.
The colourful facades of old apartment buildings on the slopes of La Croix-Rousse are utterly charming with the iron details of the windows and balconies. Little snapshots of life in the city are captured in the details, including the quaint window boxes, potted plants and trellises. Our camera rolls are filled with images of grand solid wood doors with distinctive details, the beautiful entranceways to historic buildings. There are countless cute shops lining the cobblestone streets of Vieux Lyon, where the self portrait in a shop window reflection was taken.
Central Lyon is also home to France’s largest urban park, Le Parc de la Tête d’Or. The park has various pathways perfect for our morning run. A small zoo and pretty vegetation are found within the premises, beyond the ornate iron gates.
A taste of Lyon is shown in the wine and cheese spotted at the upscale market, Les Halles de Lyon. Lyon has developed a reputation for Gastronomy, home to some of Frances’ most admired chefs including Paul Bocuse. Bouchons are traditional restaurants in Lyon, a must try when visiting! The city is also located near two of France’s best known wine-growing regions, Le Beaujolais to the north and Le Côte du Rhône to the south.
Also included in this collection of images are historic sites such as La Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Lyon and La Place Bellecour seen from above, at the top of Le Fourvière. Ornate details on the floor of La Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière are gorgeous. Lastly, when standing in La Place des Terreaux there is spectacular sculpture and architecture in every direction.
The frosty escape in pictures will continue. Part three in the series will be posted next week, so please return to explore again! I welcome you to take a look at the other posts in the series, the links are listed below.
